Meghan Markle Wedding Makeup Tutorial

On her wedding day, Meghan Markle wowed an estimated audience of 2 billion people across the globe with her stunning bridal makeup. And the good news is, not only are Meghan’s go-to beauty products far from top-secret, but her makeup artist (Daniel Martin) has also spilled plenty of deets on how exactly they achieved her look. Sure, Meghan’s natural beauty is all her own, but there are some steps you can take if you’d like to sparkle like Ms. Markle.

The prep
To prep Meghan’s skin, Daniel applied a clarifying toner and a water-based moisturiser. He also used a Korean sunscreen that “acts as a foundation gripper to lock down foundation”. As an alternative, you could use Meghan’s favourite primer, Laura Mercier’s Radiance Foundation Primer, which “helps makeup glide on easily and last longer”.

Foundation
Meghan isn’t a fan of wearing too much foundation, because she likes to make sure that her freckles are still clearly visible. Daniel says he likes to use water-based foundations, because they “absorb well into your skin without becoming oily over time.” Meghan’s former makeup artist, Lydia Sellers, revealed that she used Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation when making over Meghan – and, as this is a water-based foundation, it’s possible that this is what Daniel may have used as well.

Applicator
As Daniel points out, Meghan is “very much about keeping her skin as real and natural as possible”. To give herself a sheerer coverage (thus allowing her freckles to stay on show), Meghan likes to spread her foundation carefully with a beautyblender.

Concealer
Daniel commented that “Meghan has incredible skin”, so he only needed to use a small amount of concealer to “balance and neutralise any discolourations where needed”. Meghan’s go-to concealer is the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Concealer and Highlighter, which she’s named her “all-time favourite beauty product”. Praise indeed!

Luminizer
To give Meghan’s skin a radiant glow, Daniel used a luminizer “with a dual fibre brush to stipple on top of her foundation”. To “add a slight flush”, he also “lightly tapped a cream coral colour on the apples of her cheeks”. Meghan’s former MUA Lydia revealed that her fave product to use with Meghan was the RMS Beauty Living Luminizer, which is “a great cream highlight to use on the high cheekbones and nose because it's light and fresh”. Daniel also added that he used the same luminizer on Meghan’s shoulders and collarbone to make the look “appear harmonious from head to toe”.

Smoky eye
To achieve Meghan’s “natural-looking smoky eye”, Daniel first laid down “a base of cream colour” on her lid, before layering it “with an accompanied eyeshadow”. He used shades of “warm chestnut, cocoa, and a smudge of rust into her lash line”. Lydia Sellers revealed that her favourite product to use on Meghan’s eyes was the Tom Ford Cream Colour for Eyes, which are available in beautiful bronze colours like Platinum, Burnished Copper and Spice.

Lashes
Daniel wanted Meghan’s eyes to “almost flutter as she looked up at Harry”, so to achieve this, he “customised and shaped out some corner lashes to give her that doe-eye look”, by “pulling them out on the outer corners”. Another product Meghan always turns to for her beautiful Disney Princess-esque lashes is the Shu Uemura eyelash curler. Meghan named this hugely popular eyelash curler as one of her top 5 “must haves”, praising it for helping you to “look instantly awake”.

Lip balm
To make sure Meghan’s lips were perfectly kissable for Prince Harry, Daniel said he “opted for a tinted lip balm that gave colour without looking like heavy lipstick” because they wanted “a natural flush”. Meghan has been very vocal of her love for the tinted Fresh Sugar Dream Lip Treatment lip balm in the past, naming it “the very best” and saying that she “swears by it”. It’s highly possible that she used this balm on her big day in one of her favourite colours, Petal or Rosé.

Nail varnish
It seems that Meghan’s nail varnish of choice was actually the Queen’s decade-long favourite, Ballet Slippers by Essie. The beloved pale pink, award-winning (but incredibly affordable!) sheer polish has been the Queen’s go-to for 30 years, so it’s not surprising that Meghan would choose to rock it on her wedding day.
